May Day Reflections

Solidarity and Salute to our Labour Force in People's Movement!
May Day is symbolical in People's Movement in reinstating People's Empowerment.
People's Empowerment is the popular mood in Malaysia today.

For the new Pakatan Rakyat government, it has gone through nearly 50 days of hard toiling time after the toppling of the former BN controlled states in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor. Practically, the new government had just about a month in work after some hustles during its appointment of the Chief Minister & EXCO.

For the month-old PR government, people has gradually gained trust and confidence even though the delivery was generally perceived slow besides disturbances from UMNO's continuous dirty play on racial sentiment. Ironically, the People precious their victory and has shown firm support for the new regime. With Anwar Ibrahim as the de facto leader, especially after his pronouncement on " Ketuanan Rakyat " at a rally held on 14th April 2008 at Sulaiman Club, Kampong Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysians are anxiously looking forward to another take-over of the Federal Government in the next election or even earlier as claimed by Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In Selangor, everything seems moving steadily under the leadership of Tan Sri Dato' Khalid Ibrahim, a well known corperate CEO, streamlining policies and administration at all levels. The swearing in of Chief Minister and the EXCO went through smoothly follwed by the state assemblymen. Its first assembly meeting will convene before the end of May.
For the elected representatives, training programs and briefings on their roles as law and policy makers were carried out besides packed schedules at their respective constituencies.

Being an elected representative, I appreciate the tolerance of the people in my constituency as I was most of the time involved in meetings and training programs in Shah Alam. I am thankful to the volunteers who are working day and night providing services at various service centres . The People came pouring in to our service centres everyday asking for help to solve their long-dued problem hoping that our new government will settle their problems overnight. The rush seems like the opening of the flush-gate and it is understandable because the political motivated bureaucracies had long denied their rights. We pledge for more time for us to restructure our local authorities, i.e. MPKj and MDHL etc especially in the appointment of our councillors. Once the councillors are selected and appointed in early May, we are sure to see a new caliber line-up and efficient local government promising to upgrade the quality of lives in our community.

New world ahead is challenging but promising. We are anticipating success. Our social engineering process has begun. Lets not be a bystander and join in as the engineers of our future. We welcome people with ideals and passions. We promise no discrimination, irrespective of race, religion, profession etc as long as you feel you can contribute to our promising new world just another step ahead.

Lastly, I recall my election campaign motto: " For The People, With The People". That is what I am holding to for the past 20 years in social work. I strongly believe, where there is a will, there is a way. People empowered will change the world.
