BMC issue and solution

I had received calls and accusation for the past few days saying that I was not at the scene when BMC residents were protesting the blockage by Grand Saga at the junction of the access road.

Frankly, when unnecessary clashes broke out at the ill-fated junction, I was informed and was aware of the proceedings. I called YB Yap( Balakong ) and OCPD of Kajang Police Office advising both parties to avoid confrontation and sorting peaceful dispersal. I knew the situation will turn up the other way and my presence at the scene would not help. Moreover there were already quite a number of MPs and YBs there. My presence might catch public or media attention. But, would it help solving the problem?

We had earlier seek solution through negotiations with all parties in the presence of State EXCO Ronnie Liu, MPKj Chairman, BMC developer, LLM and the residents at Kajang Municipal Office. An understanding was achieved at the meeting by giving few more days for the State surveyor to check the status of the land where the blockage was standing. The meeting was very encouraging and we were looking forward for a good gentleman way of settlement. I personally felt good and optimistic in sorting a peaceful solution. Unexpectedly, situation turned foul when the residents turned up few days later and bulldozed the blockage. The sentiment of the angry and inpatient residents was understandable. But, was it right to take laws into our own hands?

Another meeting was called and the surveyor asked for few more days. All parties agreed to wait and had appealed to all parties to wait till the ownership of the piece of land was revealed. Unfortunately, Grand Saga acted by calling in police force and tried to reinstate the blockage. As a result, situation turned uncontrolled and broke into clashes. I was informed and had immediately appealed to the police through OCPD and SB Chief Inspector to keep the situation under peaceful control. It was a sorry and undesired ending but luckily, no serious injuries caused.

We regretted the arrogant move from Grand Saga which had intimidated the residents. But, the sentiment driven crowd should bear part of the responsibility. I knew I could not play effective role and did not agree with the way it was handled, hence did not go to the scene. Definitely, I am not taking an on-looker stand. I had met State EXCO and MB Selangor seeking for a solution which will not jeopardise the rights of the BMC residents. I strongly prefer peaceful solution to the problem and not sorting to unlawful acts. The new State government is paving its way to set up effective and responsible governance for the people. As an assemblyman from the Government, I had reserved my actions and not playing the role of the opposition liked what had been in the past. I hereby pledge for your understanding and continue to right me if I were in the wrong. Thanks again for your concern and I am confident that we are together in the re-engineering of a new society.
